About Us

Why people talk good about us behind our backs…

Every day, Legacy GreenBuilders works to improve the health of people and the planet through green building science and ecologically sound land development.

Our mission is to develop properties in a manner that improves the short and long-term impact on the environment, while exceeding each client’s expectation for cost, quality, energy use, health and comfort.

We build on principle, even if no one will notice.

With experience in Iowa that spans five decades, we want our communities to experience the full benefits of commercial and residential green building. Iowa winters, plus the local desire for sustainable land use, means that the highest standards are in order. If we ever hear that a sub-contractor is willing to cut corners to increase our profits, we know they’re not for us.

Many of the features we install will never see the light of day, and most people don’t even know they are there. But we do. Each and every feature is behind the scene, doing its job to save money and resources. Knowing that is good enough for us.

Meet Your Team

Chris Mottinger – Principal

Chris founded Legacy Greenbuilders to help clients benefit from his diverse experience as a Real Estate Consultant, Broker and Developer. For nearly two decades he has specialized in the investment, development and sale of residential, commercial, land and farm properties

Having served in the U.S. Marine Corps, Chris is a stickler for committing to principles and standards. When he began, he couldn’t believe what passed for ‘green construction’.

“What I saw lacking in the industry,” says Chris “was a true commitment to the ideals of residential green building in Iowa. Construction projects were being labeled ‘environmentally friendly’ by simply including a few features that were required by code anyway. That’s when I knew it was time to give both residential and commercial clients the assurance that their home or project would truly be built green from the ground up.

Tom Webber – Broker Associate

I’ve often said we HAVE to change the way we build our buildings. Thankfully when I met Chris we had very similar mental models around that idea. If we wait for the Government to force us to act we are wasting everyone’s time. We have to do it well before we are told we have to – plain and simple.

Joining the Legacy GreenBuilders & Developers team was the right choice to further my knowledge and pursuits in changing the way we build our buildings. A mantra that I learned while in the U.S. Army Field Artillery is “Attention to detail and teamwork is the key”. Those two bullets help guide me while working with custom client builds and our spec homes to ensure the customer is getting the highest service possible. I have a background in Real Estate in the following:

  • Property Management
  • Appraisal
  • Residential Investment and Acquisitions
  • Foreclosures & Short Sales
  • Rehab Analysis
  • Commercial Tenant Rep
  • Commercial Landlord Rep
  • Commercial & Multi-Family Development
  • Residential Development
  • Residential & Commercial Sales
  • Experience in 4 states and major markets
